Description seeks to welcome a hands-on strategic leader who wakes up each day with the goal of helping pursue its mission and reach its full potential. In collaboration with the heads of Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Finance, you will be asked to help the organization marshal the power of our data in order to support the analytical needs of the company, and to draw business insights that drive’s strategy, traffic, revenue growth and enterprise value. You’ll help answer questions like: Which non-financial metrics drive the greatest business value, and how can we improve those metrics? Which site visitors drive the greatest value, and how should this inform our strategy? What underlying trends are most impacting our business, and how can we impact those trends, or leverage them to our benefit?

We have a compelling, successful business model in a transforming industry and partnerships with some of the biggest names in journalism, from the New York Times to Dallas Morning News; the San Francisco Chronicle to the Washington Post domestically, and from Sydney Morning News to Johnston Press in the UK. Our consumer brand is still nascent but growing in providing direct services, including an exclusive partnership with Narrative Science to leverage natural language processing to make writing obituaries easier for everyone.


An ideal candidate is one seeking a key role with a mission-driven company where they are in the position to drive real impact every day. He or she will have talent, entrepreneurial drive, and experience that includes:

  • Deep understanding and experience analyzing traffic volume, paths, and conversion rates with a heavily visited consumer-facing digital media or commerce company
  • A proven ability to work with cross-functional leaders at the company to establish reporting needs and to generate data-driven business insights
  • Demonstrated success helping an organization collect and connect its different data sources to enable tracking and analysis of key business metrics and trends
  • Evidence of helping to deliver direct, real, measurable value.
  • Familiarity with DFP, SQL, Great Plains, and Google Analytics a plus.

Education Requirements

While an MBA is not required, a strength connecting analytics to business strategy and bottom line results is. And while a graduate degree in math, computer science, or statistics is also not required, demonstrated intellectual horsepower is.
